WATER TANK CONSTRUCTION FOR IRRIGATION
Location: Makulu Area, Dodoma City, Tanzania
Area: 12,000 Litres Water Storage Capacity
Water scarcity remains one of the major challenges facing communities in Dodoma,
where rainfall is low, unpredictable, and seasonal. Sustainable water management
is therefore critical for agriculture, tree planting, and environmental conservation.
To support irrigation activities and improve water availability for tree nurseries
and planted areas, HABARI CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION (HCO) implemented a
Water Tank Construction Project in Makulu, Dodoma. The project involved the
construction and installation of a 12,000-litre water storage tank dedicated to
irrigation purposes.
Project Objectives
- To ensure reliable water supply for irrigation during dry seasons
- To support tree planting and survival rates in water-scarce areas
- To promote sustainable water resource management
- To enhance climate resilience for conservation and agricultural activities
Project Components
- Construction of a reinforced concrete water tank with a 12,000-litre capacity
- Installation of inlet and outlet pipes for efficient water flow
- Connection of the tank to irrigation systems for nurseries and planted areas
- Provision of a secure tank cover to reduce evaporation and contamination
- Site preparation and drainage to protect the tank structure
Project Benefits
- Environmental: Improves survival of trees and vegetation through consistent irrigation
- Agricultural: Supports crop and nursery irrigation, improving productivity
- Climate Resilience: Reduces dependence on rainfall and mitigates drought impacts
- Community: Provides long-term water infrastructure for conservation activities
The Water Tank Construction Project in Makulu is a practical and impactful
intervention addressing water scarcity challenges in Dodoma. By securing
reliable water storage for irrigation, the project strengthens environmental
conservation efforts, improves tree survival rates, and enhances climate
adaptation strategies.
This initiative demonstrates HABARI CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION’s commitment
to sustainable infrastructure development that supports long-term environmental
protection and community resilience.
